Comparison to Other Pedagogies
Our Approach at MapleBear At MapleBear, we don’t strictly follow a single pedagogy. Instead, we blend the best practices from various philosophies to provide children both depth and flexibility in their learning—while ensuring they are well-prepared academically for primary school and beyond. Our overarching theme is “learn through play,” guided by a thematic curriculum covering essential topics for development.
Montessori-Inspired “Prepared Environment”
We believe in a “prepared environment” that fosters self-directed learning. Our teachers lovingly hand-craft materials we call “learning corners,” each designed to reinforce specific lessons. Much like Montessori, these resources allow children to explore independently while still meeting key learning objectives.
Reggio Emilia-Inspired Child-Led Learning
While our curriculum follows predefined themes, teachers adapt lessons based on each child’s interests—whether that involves science experiments, music and movement, or other exploratory activities. This approach reflects Reggio Emilia, where classes are partly child-led but framed by a structured environment. As a result, children develop foundational topics they’ll need for primary school while still having room for curiosity-driven exploration.
Balancing Academic & Social-Emotional Growth
Ultimately, we aim to nurture social-emotional and character development while also fulfilling the academic requirements of the formal primary school system. We believe children deserve the best of both worlds: an engaging, playful environment paired with practical skills and knowledge to succeed in later schooling.
